K-State basketball fends off No. 25 BYU with big game from Kaluma

MANHATTAN, KS. (KSNT) – Having lost seven of its last eight, K-State men’s basketball desperately needed a win at home against No. 25 BYU Saturday.

The Wildcats put together a complete game, beating the Cougars 84-74 for a Big 12 win.

K-State never trailed, getting up to a 12-2 lead three minutes into the game, forcing a BYU timeout. The Cougars pulled within 17-16 before the Wildcats got back to a 42-38 lead at the half.

The Wildcats didn’t let up in the second half, leading by as much as 16. In the end, K-State held off the Cougars for an 84-74 victory.

K-State was led by a career day from Arthur Kaluma, who put up a career-high 28 points on 8-11 shooting to go with 10 rebounds and four assists. Tylor Perry finished with 16 points, Cam Carter and David N’Guessan 12 points and Will McNair Jr. 11 points.

With the win, K-State moves to 16-11, 6-8 in the Big 12. Next up in a home matchup on Monday with West Virginia.
