NORTHEAST KANSAS (KSNT) – This week’s K-Nation takes a deep dive into a weekend packed with postseason basketball, hot streaks on the diamond and the spring football.

After a first round victory over Samford, KU men’s basketball lost to Gonzaga in the round of 32, making it the second straight year with a second-round loss. Jerome Tang’s K-State men’s basketball did not get an NCAA tournament bid and lost to Iowa in the first round of the NIT.

K-State women’s basketball hosted the first two rounds of the tournament in Bramlage Coliseum. ‘Cats got a win over Portland, then lost a hard-fought heartbreaker to Colorado. KU women’s basketball, suiting up in Los Angeles, beat Michigan in a round-one overtime thriller. The Jayhawks play No. 1 USC at 9 p.m. CT on Monday, March 25.

It was a big weekend on the diamond for area teams. Both K-State baseball and KU softball completed a series sweep over Houston, while KU baseball’s Collier Cranford hit for the cycle against UCF.

Moving to the football field, two local players are gearing up for big seasons with KU and K-State football. K-State’s Van Malone talks all things DJ Giddens, while new KU offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes and Hayden high graduate Deshawn Hanicka are learning a new system together.

K-Nation’s Glenn Kinley caught up with Kansas City Star columnist Vahe Gregorian following KU men’s basketball’s second game in Salt Lake City. Gregorian dives into the ‘Hawks second-half breakdown and which Jayhawks have big decisions to make about next season.

K-Nation’s Landon Reinhardt talked to K-State head women’s basketball Jeff Mittie in an exclusive interview following the ‘Cats second-round exit. Mittie discusses K-State’s historic season and how much senior center Ayoka Lee has meant to the program.
