Jayhawks drop home game to BYU

28 February 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The BYU Cougars, newcomers to the Big 12 this season, walked into Allen Fieldhouse and snapped the University of Kansas Jayhawks’ 19-game home win streak, walking out with a win on Tuesday, 76-68.

The Jayhawks had four scores in double figures, with Hunter Dickinson leading the charge with 17. Dajuan Harris (12), KJ Adams (11) and Johnny Furphy (10) all joined him in double-figure scoring.

Jaxon Robinson and Dallin Hall led the offensive output for BYU, scoring 18 points a piece.

Things seemed to be trending the Jayhawks way midway through the game, as KU held a 12-point lead midway through the game. But a barrage of threes from the Cougars — capped off by a shot by Noah Waterman with 2:43 left — gave BYU a 66-63 lead.

How record February heat is priming the US for crop-wrecking ‘whiplash’

As a team, the Jayhawks shot 39% from the field and just 20% from beyond the arc while holding BYU to 39.3% from the field and 38.2% from three.

The Jayhawks won the rebound battle 40-37 but committed 11 turnovers to the Cougars’ seven.

Up next, the Jayhawks will take a road trip to Waco to face No. 15 Baylor on March 2. That game will tip off at noon and air on ABC.
