Inmate dies at state prison in Lansing

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Kansas Department of Corrections said a 28-year-old inmate in the Lansing Correctional Facility died Saturday, Feb. 17.

The KDOC said Kaydin Varland-Hazelton was pronounced dead by hospital staff. The cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy. Because the death occurred while in KDOC custody, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation will handle the investigation.

Varland-Hazelton was serving an 84-month sentence for several convictions of drug possessions and one count of battery in Sedgwick County.
