HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) — A division of Berkshire Hathaway has bought a Hutchinson bus maker.
Forest River Inc. has purchased Collins Bus. Collins is the largest manufacturer and the first to develop the Type A school bus, often called a short bus due to its smaller size.
Founded in 1967, Collins moved from Kansas City, Missouri, to Hutchinson in 1972. In 2006, they were American Industrial Partners, which became the REV Group.
In addition to Type A school buses, they manufacture activity buses, daycare buses, and minibusses and recently introduced a fully electric bus. Forrest River manufactures a wide variety of shuttle buses, commercial trucks, cargo trailers, recreational vehicles, fifth wheels, park models, and pontoon boats.
REV Group is receiving $303 million in cash for the sale of Collins to Forest River.
