Historic season for K-State women’s basketball ends with round two loss

MANHATTAN (KSNT) – K-State women’s basketball saw its season come to a close in front of a sold out crowd in Bramlage Coliseum on Sunday.

The Wildcats battled with the Buffaloes in a heated four-quarter dual. Ultimately, Colorado punched its ticket to the Sweet 16 in the first meeting between these two programs since 2011, winning 63-50.

After being knotted at 14 through one quarter, Kansas State opened up a lead as big as nine points in the second. However, CU stormed back and it took a highlight-reel play from Serena Sundell at the end of the first half to put the ‘Cats ahead, 35-33, at the break.

The third quarter was all Colorado. The visitors outscored Mittie’s team by 12 in the third, leading 52-42 with help from an intentional foul called against K-State junior guard Serena Sundell. The call gave CU two free throws, the ball and a whole bunch of momentum.

K-State pulled within five with three minutes left. However, a scoring drought down the stretch haunted the home team as the deficit never got within one score.

The Wildcats finish the season 26-8 overall. 26 wins was the most in a season for K-State women’s basketball since 2002-2003.
