Half dozen tornados hit Wabaunsee, sheriff’s office says

TOPEKA (KSNT) – On Thursday, the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office shared pictures of last night’s storm.

At 7:43 p.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for Wabaunsee, Geary and Morris Counties. Shortly later at 7:50 p.m., a tornado was reported on the ground in Alma heading northeast.

According to the sheriff’s office, at least half a dozen tornadoes were confirmed by spotters and sheriff’s office staff. They say damage has been reported to structures in the rural area of the county.

The sheriff’s office reports that no cities in the county were struck by tornadoes.

Wabaunsee County Emergency Management will be making a full damage assessment first thing in the morning, according to the sheriff’s office.
