‘Bane’s Law’: KS lawmakers could pass law penalizing the killing police dogs

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The deadly shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade has sparked disagreement among Kansas governmental leadership.
The question has once again been raised: is it time to increase regulation of firearms?
Kansas Secretary of State, Scott Schwab (R), sat down with 27 News Rebekah Chung today for ‘Inside Kansas Politics’. They discussed some Chiefs’ players calling for “real solutions” to gun violence.
“It’s a heavy week this week, and I don’t think we make those decisions while we feel the emotions we have,” Schwab said. “We have to wait until we’ve had our grieving process and then make logical decisions what to do.”
Representative John Carmichael, (D) of Wichita has a different perspective.
“Something has to change,” Carmichael said. “We have a second amendment, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t go to rallies and enjoy time with the Kansas City Chiefs and our families without being afraid that one or more of us will not go home. It’s time for action.”
Carmichael notes he himself is a gun owner, but says “we must find reasonable regulation of the possession of firearms.”
KSNT 27 News reached out to Representative Stephen Owens (R) of Hesston, but he declined to comment on the incident.
