Geary Co. issues burn ban, may extend to Friday

JUNCTION CITY (KSNT) – Geary County Emergency Management (GCEM) has issued a burn ban for Wednesday.

With temps rising, southern winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts of wind up to 30 mph, GCEM has issued a burn ban for the day.

According to Geary County burning regulations and safety guidelines, burn ban determinations are made daily and decided based on National Weather Service information.

On burn ban days no burning is allowed. Local determinations are made on the following factors:

Local jurisdictional authority.

High fire danger with winds over 15 mph.

Fire danger is low or moderate but forecast sees winds greater than 20 mph.

Resource limitation.

Local dryness conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts up to 20 mph are expected Thursday and winds of 10-15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph are expected Friday.
