30 March 2024

GARDNER, Kan. (WDAF) — Gardner police say the death of a 2-year-old has been ruled a homicide months after officers began investigating.

The department says medical examiners have ruled Alice Bennett’s death a homicide but haven’t said how she died.

The investigation into her death is ongoing, and there are currently no suspects in custody.

On Nov. 2, 2023, Gardner police were sent just before 4 p.m. to apartments near 188th and Locust Streets for a medical call. A caretaker had found a 2-year-old child unresponsive, police said.

As first responders took the child to a local hospital, officials determined the child had suffered an injury that led to a life-threatening condition. Police did not give any more information about Bennett’s injuries.

Bennett died a few days after the incident due to her injuries.

This continues to be a developing story, and FOX4 will add more details as we confirm further information.
