GARDEN CITY, Kan. (KSNW) — A man from Garden City was seriously injured in a crash Sunday morning.
According to the Garden City Police Department, they, alongside the Garden City Fire Department and Finney County EMS, were dispatched around 4:30 a.m. for the report of a crash that resulted in injuries in the 1000 block of W. Mary St.
Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found a 24-year-old man on the sidewalk suffering from multiple injuries. His vehicle was upside down on its roof in a parking lot.
The GCPD says an investigation revealed that the man was driving at a high rate of speed along West Mary Street when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a utility pole. The vehicle continued westbound until hitting another utility pole and spinning out of control. The vehicle then entered the parking lot of 1014 W. Mary St. and crashed into the front of a building before flipping over on its roof and coming to a stop. During the crash, the man was ejected from his vehicle, landing on the sidewalk. He was later flown to Wichita due to the extent of his injuries.
The area was closed for seven hours as City water and electric departments repaired damages.
The KHP assisted with the investigation. It is ongoing.
