According to the Garden City Police Department, severe weather, including high winds, began moving across town at 3:30 p.m.

Shortly after, the GCPD Communications Center began receiving reports of damage, power outages and funnel sightings, which led to the activation of tornado sirens in Garden City.

“Fire, Police, and EMS personnel responded to assess damage reported to residential, commercial, and industrial properties immediately east of US Highway 83 / north of the Arkansas River to approximately Schulman Avenue,” said the GCPD.

Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found damage consistent with very high winds.

First responders are checking on the well-being of Garden City residents, and Garden City and Finney County Public Works and Utilities are working to restore power and remove debris.

The GCPD says no injuries have been reported at this time, and the amount of damage done is currently unknown.

Any displaced residents can call the GCPD at 620-276-1300.

The GCPD held a briefing at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. Visit their Facebook page to watch.
