WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Dan Madrigal’s 1966 Kansas City Chiefs-themed Volkswagen Bus is a retro nod to his favorite NFL team.
“You see the other Chiefs buses out there that are red. I wanted to do something different with yellow but red interior,” said Madrigal.
As he showcases his custom reworked VW with 13 windows and Chiefs inside and out, he’s cheering on his friend, Kelly Kennedy, in Vegas.
“He wanted me to go with him. But I’ll have to stick here in Wichita and keep the bus here,” said Madrigal.
Meanwhile, in Vegas, Kennedy is enjoying the Big Game hype with pre-parties all weekend.
“I’ve always loved the Kansas City Chiefs, and it’s something my dad and I enjoyed when he was alive,” said Kennedy. “That was our thing, that was our thing together.”
Kennedy is also enjoying superfan status. Back in October, the Kansas Chiefs named him their superfan. Kennedy got a trip to Vegas as a finalist for NFL Fan of the Year. Now he’s looking forward to the game with all the hype the weekend has to offer.
“I’ve been here poolside, and it’s fun because they have food trucks with San Francisco food and a truck with Chiefs BBQ,” said Kennedy. “The 49ers superfan told me he liked the Kansas City food more.”
Kennedy is also going to the NFL experience and a Sports Illustrated party.
“They’ve told me I will have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And that’s exactly what’s happening,” said Kennedy. “With everything here, people are so nice. This has been the chance of a lifetime. And I’m enjoying it. Cannot wait for the game.”
“I know he’s having a great time,” said Madrigal. “I’m excited for him.”
