Forfeit advances Seaman girls’ basketball to substate championship

27 February 2024

TOPEKA (KSNT) – One of the best high school girls’ basketball teams in the state is advancing in the postseason without playing a game.

Seaman high school announced Monday its girls’ basketball team’s 5A substate semifinal against KC Harmon will not be played. The Vikings say that Harmon issued a forfeit and will not participate in the game.

The decision comes after Seaman (19-2) beat KC Turner (1-19) in the Vikings’ regular season finale on Thursday, Feb. 22. Seaman beat KC Turner 73-13 to win its second-straight United Kansas Conference League title.

The history books will mark the game as a 2-0 final in favor of the Vikings. Seaman will host the winner of the Basehor-Linwood and Sumner Academy in the substate championship game on Saturday, March 2.
