Fire department responds to vacant garage fire in south Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Fire Department responded to a vacant garage fire in south Wichita Monday evening.

According to Wichita Fire Department Battalion Chief Chad Winton, they received a call just before 5:30 p.m. for the report of a house fire in the 1800 block of S. Laura St.

Upon arrival, crews found a boarded-up 1.5-story garage on fire.

Winton said it was unoccupied and that no one was inside at the time of the fire.


Fire destroys former church in Barber County

“Was able to get in and do a quick search, make sure it was vacant,” said Winton. “It went out relatively quick. We had three lines in place, one on the first floor, one on the second floor, went out probably within 20, 30 minutes.”

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire has not been released at this time.
