WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Caden Favors struck out 10 and didn’t allow a single run across seven innings of work as the Wichita State University Shockers defeated the Long Beach State Dirtbags on Friday, 4-1.
There wasn’t a ton of firepower from the Shockers’ bats, as the team only recorded eight hits in the game. Two of those came in the fifth inning, as a double by Darnell Parker Jr. and a single by Mauricio Millan gave the Shockers their first lead of the day.
Wichita State took advantage of the Dirtbags’ (yes, that’s their mascot) errors in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 4-0.
In total, Long Beach State committed four errors in the contest. Its lone run of the game came in the top of the ninth inning from a single by Connor Charpiot.
Shockers right-hander Caleb Anderson, a true sophomore out of Springdale, Arkansas, got touched up a bit in the final two innings, allowing two hits and walking one, but he was able to work around a pair of baserunners in the final frame to seal the win for the Shockers.
The win moves Wichita State to 8-4 on the season and gives the Shockers the opportunity to win the series on Saturday. The next game is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday and will stream on ESPN+.
