WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Deputy Robert Kunze died in the line of duty in Sedgwick County in 2018 after being shot while trying to apprehend a suspect.
Saturday, Kunze’s prized car was revealed to be the public at the Cars for Charity Car Show.
“To feature this car, it was meant to be to have it here and to display what the community has done to restore this car for officer Kunze,” Tom Nance, the president of the Wichita GTO Club, said.
The restoration of Kunze’s 1966 GTO took three years to complete. When assistance was needed, there was no shortage of help.
“Mostly what I heard was ‘what do you need? what do you need? And this is the end result,” Sam Nance, a member of the Wichita GTO Club, said. “We needed to have a finished car for the Kunzes.”
Now that the final tune-ups are done, family car rides are up next.
The one-of-a-kind vehicle will be on display at the GTOAA National Convention in Springfield, Missouri, in June.
