WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Exploration Place broke ground on a new amphitheater on Wednesday afternoon.
The amphitheater will be built right west of the museum on the bank of the Arkansas River. It will be directly across from the Keeper of the Plains. The picturesque setting played a key role in the idea.
“We saw the opportunity to create an amphitheater that could bring really great performance, life science shows, movie nights, in this amazing location,” Adam Smith, Exploration president, said.
The amphitheater will be able to seat about 1,500 people and is expected to be open this fall. The theater is just one part of the EP2 initiative. A playscape and indoor renovations are also part of the multi-million dollar plan.
Exploration Place opened in 2000. The museum welcomed a record 403,543 visitors in 2023.
