EXCLUSIVE: Jeff Mittie talks to K-Nation after season-ending loss

25 March 2024

MANHATTAN, KS. (KSNT) – A magical season for K-State women’s basketball has come to an end.

Head coach Jeff Mittie finished the 2023-24 campaign with 26 wins, his most as the head man for the Wildcats. After a season-ending loss to Colorado, K-Nation’s Landon Reinhardt grabbed an exclusive one-on-one interview with Mittie to talk about the game and season.

Mittie was asked about his message to his team in the locker room afterwards.

“Well, just I really appreciate the hard work they put in this year. It’s disappointing we didn’t play very well today, but they did so many good things this year,” Mittie said. “You don’t want a moment where you don’t play well to define your season, but it’s disappointing and we had a great crowd today. I appreciate that. And but we’re disappointed, obviously, in the outcome.”

K-State star center Ayoka Lee has a decision to make. The senior has a COVID year of eligibility left remaining, and without knowing what Lee will do, Mittie was asked about Lee’s impact as a Wildcat.

“You look at the impact that Yokie’s had in her time here, and if she chooses to come back, I think she can even have a greater impact,” Mittie said. “If she chooses to go on, you’ll look at her and say this is one of the best players to ever play at Kansas State, one of the best representatives of Kansas State.”

Mittie also discussed a controversial foul call and what it means to play in front of a sold-out crowd.
