EMPORIA (KSNT) – Emporia State University (ESU) is no stranger to All-Americans or sixth-year athletes, but having both in one person is another level of talent for a roster.
That’s Travis Morrison, a thrower for ESU track and field. He’s a decorated athlete who continues to get better. Morrison hit a personal-best 18.02 meter shot put at the UCM Invitational on Jan. 19.
“Not everybody gets a chance to do what I’ve gotten a chance to do, let alone at such a high level,” Morrison said. “So, I’m just going to keep trying my best and getting after it, and hopefully I can accomplish the lofty goals that I’ve set for myself.”
Morrison isn’t only improving his own craft. He’s helping his teammates improve, too.
“He’s become a leader,” ESU throws coach Kellsey Trimble said. “Sometimes, I’ve pushed him into taking the leadership role. He’s a little bit of a reluctant leader, but an awesome one because he just does everything right.”
Morrison has a chance to achieve his lofty goals on his home ground. Emporia State is hosting the Division II outdoor national championships in May.
