Egg prices rise in Topeka as Easter approaches

29 March 2024

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Whether you’re buying them to dye or to make into a casserole, you might have to spend an extra dollar on your eggs this Easter.

Egg prices are fluctuating across the country. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, between January and February of this year, the average cost for per dozen rose 5.8%.

27 News spoke to local grocery store Seabrook Apple Market Manager Terry Fleer about what prices he’s seen locally.

“They’re up and down. They change every week. I have no idea what they’ll be in the future. I know that next week our prices on our eggs will be different than they are now,” Fleer said.

The cost of eggs has been volatile since 2020. Bird flu, chicken feed prices and inflation all play a role in recent increases.
