SEWARD COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — A man from Dodge City was seriously injured in a crash while fleeing police Saturday night.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a Seward County deputy attempted to stop a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by the 29-year-old man from Dodge City, for a damaged windshield just after 8:45 p.m.

The KHP says the driver then fled westbound on U-54, almost hitting an officer with the Liberal Police Department who was on the eastbound shoulder. To avoid hitting the officer, the driver went into the east ditch.

The LPD threw stop sticks, which the truck ran over.

When the driver attempted to get back onto U-54, he entered a side skid and crossed U-54 to the west ditch. Once he hit the ditch, his truck got caught and rolled an unknown number of times before coming to a stop upright, facing southeast.

The driver was taken with suspected serious injuries to an area hospital.
