TOPEKA, (KSNT)- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will remain on the ballot for Kansas’ Presidential Preference Primary, despite dropping out of the race on Sunday.
Whitney Tempel, a spokeswoman for the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office, confirmed that a vote for DeSantis will be counted.
“The total vote count for all four Republican candidates would be given to the Party,” Tempel told Kansas Capitol Bureau on Monday.
According to Tempel, DeSantis’ vote will not be considered void due to Kansas GOP Party rules. Each candidate pays $10,000 to participate.
DeSantis was one of the last candidates to file for Kansas’ Presidential Preference Primary, signing up just hours before the deadline on Friday, Jan. 19. The Florida governor ended his bid for the presidential race just two days later.
Kansas’ Presidential Preference Primary is set for March 19.
According to the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office, Feb. 20 is the deadline to register to vote or update voter registration information to participate in the Presidential Preference Primary, and the last day to apply for an advance voting by mail ballot.
