9 March 2024

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A team of lawyers representing Mickel Cherry, who is accused of raping and murdering five-year-old Zoey Felix, says they need more time to move forward in the case.

Cherry made an appearance today for a status conference in Shawnee County. He is accused of Capital murder. Cherry’s defense attorney Mark Manna told 27 News on Friday his team needs more time to review 9,000 pages of mitigation records plus an additional 25,000 documents.

Manna told 27 News a judge has approved a second status conference hearing on June 6. From there, he said they may set a preliminary hearing later this year.
