Former Wichitan makes it onto season 25 of ‘The Voice,’ team Dan + Shay

(NBC) — Battle Rounds begin Monday night on NBC’s “The Voice” and it will be new for the contestants and rookie coaching duo, Dan + Shay.
Simply getting a chair to turn in the Blind Auditions was a big deal.
“Being top 40 definitely gives me like some reassurance that I can actually sing,” said Gabriel Goes of Team Chance.
And getting Dan + Shay to turn around for someone else’s version of their song was even bigger.
“There are no words to really, truly show how thankful I am about this opportunity,” said Ryan Argast of Team Dan + Shay.
The next step in that opportunity is the Battle Mounds on Monday night.
“Battles are definitely scary, but I feel better,” said Kenna Fields of Team Legend’s trio OK3. “I know we’re here. Now, we’ve just got to focus and get our game face on to do what’s in front of us.”
What is in front of the first-time coaches is working with their team — artists they’ve just met — and choosing between them.
“We didn’t think about that at all before we came on to do the show,” said Dan Smyers of Dan + Shay. “Sending people home was one of the most heartbreaking things we’ve ever had to do, honestly.”
Their reminder to team members is to savor “The Voice” experience however long it lasts.
“This is a huge moment,” said Shay Mooney of the duo. “Don’t try to think too much about this being make or break. Just enjoy that moment.”
By season’s end, the moment will be even bigger, and the rookie coaches hope they will be part of it.
“We’re not just here to compete, we’re here to win,” said Mooney. “We really want to go all the way.”
Watch “The Voice” Battle Rounds Monday at 7 p.m. on NBC.
