D1 baseball names K-State’s Neighbors Big 12 Preseason Pitcher of the Year

MANHATTAN (KSNT) – K-State’s closer is back for another year after an outstanding sophomore campaign.

Tyson Neighbors, a junior from Royce City, Texas, was named D1Baseball’s 2024 preseason Big 12 Pitcher of the Year on Friday. It comes after he earned All-American status from multiple publications in 2023.

Neighbors was unanimously voted preseason All-Big 12 by the league’s head coaches, the conference announced on Wednesday. He did not earn preseason pitcher of the year directly from the conference, that honor went to Texas’ Lebarron Johnson Jr.

The 6-foot-2 righty touched 99 mph on the radar gun in 2023. He struck out 86 batters in 24 1/3 innings pitched. He notched a 1.85 ERA and a league-best 11 saves.

Neighbors reportedly turned down big-time NIL offers from SEC programs after his breakout sophomore season. Click here for that story.

He was one of three Wildcats named to this year’s preseason all-conference list.

The ‘Cats were picked to finish fifth in the Big 12’s preseason poll. It’s a group with strong motivation after being narrowly, and perhaps wrongfully, left out of the NCAA tournament last spring.
