WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – It’s Valentine’s Day week, and couples like to come up with different ways to celebrate the day, whether it’s through flowers, chocolate, or gifts.

Marge and Max Meuli are living in a senior care facility and have been married for 67 years. Together they had four children. Now that the children are grown, Marge and Max have 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

KSN spoke with them on Valentine’s Day and asked them what keeps their marriage strong and what they think defines love.

“Just a real deep caring for someone. And a lot of times, it’s regardless of how they act or things that happen, but just, you know, coming through it strong with somebody and just affection, of course, And with our family. It’s just it’s just a great love with family and with each other,” said Marge.

“Well, I think love has various steps, maybe. But they’re all equally thought of, you know. Somebody might send a piece of pie or send a movie, you know – something. And when you’ve been married quite a while, you get somebody lots to eat. I don’t know. Like, when you find love, that’s a – you love ’em and everything. You know,” said Max. “I love my wife. That’s how great it is.”

The Meulis say that they get asked, “How do you make it that long with somebody?”

“A friend of mine answered that one time when they ask her a long time ago. And I think that’s a good answer. She said, ‘lots of prayer,'” said Marge. “We are committed to one another. We were from the very beginning, and we fell in love and stayed that way.”

Marge and Max like to spend quality time together and play poker, which is what they did on Valentine’s Day.
