A potent cold front has moved through and after having some wintry and wet weather, high pressure is quickly building back in which will clear skies and allow us to return to sunshine today.
Despite the front moving away from us we are still feeling the effects of it. Bundle up for a bitterly cold start to the day.
Winds are not as strong and with temperatures not being as warm today this will help give us some brief relief from fire concerns. Breezy conditions this morning in the Wichita Metro will ease up after midday.
Winds will also switch back out of the south today, this will set us up for another surge of warmth over the coming days. So cooler highs in the 40s for many of us today will not last long.
Temperatures will be closer to average by Thursday but gusty conditions will return too which will start to bring the fire danger back up. We work our way back up to near 80 again over the weekend before a cold fronts resets temperatures early next week.
Before that next cold front arrives at the end of the weekend, there will be another system that moves in Thursday. A few passing showers will be possible between Southwest, South Central, and Eastern Kansas.
The Sunday front could spark a shower or storm between Central and Eastern Kansas by evening and possibly even a few snowflakes to the northwest, but this will not be enough to extinguish fire concerns over the coming days.
