WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The City of Wichita hosted a forum Wednesday night to help tackle homelessness.
Assistant Cty Manager Troy Anderson said that two potential sites have been selected for a multi-agency center for homeless services.
One is a 385,000-square-foot facility that would be renovated to provide services, including affordable housing units.
A speaker from United Way of the Plains says they’ve had progress this year in getting people into homes.
“We’ve already seen 13 chronically homeless people that have been housed. That’s one person for every four days. So I believe, just like Julia Orlando said, that we can do this,” said Matt Lowe with the United Way of the Plains
He says the point-in-time homeless count from 2023 had 702 unhoused people. Numbers from 2024 are not yet in.
