Chris Klieman paid 2024 retention bonus

1 March 2024

MANHATTAN (KSNT) – Friday was payday for K-State’s head football coach.

Chris Klieman earned his 2024 retention bonus on March 1. He received $250,000 for his loyalty to K-State, as outlined in his contract.

The bonus comes in addition to Klieman’s $3.8 million salary for the 2024 contract year. The Wildcat head football coach just wrapped up his fifth season leading the program, in which K-State finished 9-4 after a Pop-Tarts Bowl win.

Winning eight or more games in 2023 clocked an automatic one year extension for Coach Klieman. He is now undercontract in Manhattan through the 2031 season and set to make $5.3 million by then.

The contract also includes, but is not limited to, the following yearly available bonuses:

$100,000 if team finishes in third place in conference

$150,000 if team finishes in second place in conference

$250,000 if team finishes in first place in conference

$100,000 if team plays in conference championship game

$200,000 if team wins conference championship game

$50,000 if team wins six regular season games and is selected for a bowl

$150,000 if team is selected for a CFP bowl

$250,000 if team plays in CFP Playoff, plus additional $100,000 for each CFP win

or $1,000,000 if team wins CFP National Championship game

Meanwhile, KU’s Lance Leipold just signed an amended contract. Click here for that story

K-State lost more than a dozen scholarship players to the transfer portal after the 2023 season, but in December, Klieman explained why he’s not worried.
