KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — The Kansas City Chiefs have traded away one of their best defenders.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, cornerback L’Jarius Sneed has been traded to the Tennessee Titans.
The Chiefs are expected to receive a 2025 3rd-round pick in addition to a 2024 7th-round pick swap.
Sneed will sign a new contract, and the trade will be finalized once he passes his physical.
The Chiefs placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on Sneed, and he was set to earn $19.8 million. They now have that money available in the salary cap.
Sneed is coming off a career year in which he allowed zero touchdowns to wide receivers during the regular season and limited some of the league’s best pass catchers.
In his coverage, Sneed has allowed 51% completion, 478 yards, and 0 touchdowns, along with grabbing two interceptions, according to Pro Football Reference.
The Chiefs have two cornerbacks coming into their third season: Joshua Williams and Jaylen Watson, who have both produced in their first two seasons.
Williams is the same archetype as Sneed, listed at 6-foot-3 inches tall and weighing 193 pounds. Although not quite as physical as the veteran corner, he has similar athletic traits.
Williams and Watson would complement the Chiefs’ other top cornerback, Trent McDuffie, who was named a First-Team All-Pro this past season.
