Chiefs sign QB Carson Wentz to one-year deal

2 April 2024

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs have found a new quarterback to backup Patrick Mahomes for the 2024 season.

The Chiefs signed veteran quarterback Carson Wentz to a one-year deal on Monday, according to multiple reports. Wentz is in his eighth season and spent last last season with the Los Angeles Rams.

The former second overall pick has plenty of experience, helping lead the Philadelphia Eagles to the first seed in 2017 before getting injured right before the playoffs. The Eagles would go on to win the Super Bowl with former Chief Nick Foles under center.

Wentz also garnered Second-team All-Pro honors that season along with a Pro Bowl.

He also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Commanders in backup and starting roles.

He will replace former Chiefs backup QB Blaine Gabbert. Wentz should provide the Chiefs with a veteran presence in the locker room.
