Chiefs’ LG Joe Thuney suffers pec strain in win vs. Bills

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — One of the Kansas City Chiefs’ key pieces suffered a pectoral injury during their win in the Divisional Round against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney suffered a pec strain, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Thuney received an MRI for the injury on Monday.

This is considered good news, as the interior lineman avoided something more severe, such as a pec tear, and still has a chance to play on Sunday. His status will be tracked throughout the week.

Thuney played a huge part in the offense’s productive day, helping keep the pocket clean in the game in which Patrick Mahomes was sacked zero times.

He also earned first-team All-Pro honors for the first time this season, his third All-Pro selection of his career.

Thuney finished the game with the injury. Linebacker Willie Gay (neck) and safety Mike Edwards also left the game with injuries.

The status for all three on Sunday is currently unclear.
