Chiefs heading to Super Bowl with win over Ravens

28 January 2024

BALTIMORE (KSNT) – The Kansas City Chiefs played at the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

Kansas City’s defense kept Lamar Jackson and the Ravens at bay, as the Chiefs held on to a 17-10 victory.

Offense looked to be humming for both teams early as the Chiefs and Ravens traded touchdowns. Patrick Mahomes found Travis Kelce to start the scoring, and Lamar Jackson found Zay Flowers to make it a 7-7 game.

Kansas City’s second possession took nine minutes off the clock and ended with an Isiah Pacheco touchdown run to retake a 14-7 lead. A Jackson fumble gave the Chiefs the ball back in Raven territory, but Kansas City couldn’t make anything of it.

With seconds left in the first half, Harrison Butker made a 52-yard field goal to give the Chiefs a 17-7 lead midway through the game.

Defense was the name of the game in the second half. Neither team scored in the third quarter, and the fourth started with the Chiefs knocking the ball out of Flowers’ hands before he crossed the endzone to get the ball back.

Later in the fourth, a Baltimore drive ended with Jackson being intercepted by Deon Bush in the endzone, another turnover for Kansas City. The Ravens managed a field goal on the next drive to pull within 17-10 with 2:34 to play.

On third-and-nine with 2:19 to play, Mahomes threw a deep-ball to Marquez Valdes-Scantling to pick up a first down. With no timeouts for Baltimore, it was enough for Kansas City to kneel out the clock and win the game 17-10.

The win sends the Chiefs to their fourth Super Bowl in the last five seasons.

Mahomes finished 30 of 39 passing for 241 yards and a touchdown. Kelce caught 11 passes for 116 yards and a score, becoming the NFL’s all-time postseason receptions leader along the way.

Kansas City will play the winner of the 49ers and Lions in Super Bowl 58 on Sunday, Feb. 11.
