Royals Opening Day: What to know for fans headed to the game
25 March 2024
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was at the helm of one of the most prolific defenses in franchise history.
That, along with two straight Super Bowl wins and becoming the first coordinator ever with four Super Bowl wins (two with the Giants) led to Spags being pursued by multiple teams in the offseason.
But the Chiefs made sure he stayed put in Kansas City for now, signing him to a contract extension in February.
“He was on the last year of his deal and so I think his dream was to become a head coach and still is. Hopefully he has that opportunity next year to do that,” Reid told ESPN’s Nick Wagoner. “So, it didn’t work out that way so we just jumped on it, knowing that teams were going to be coming after him.
“There were a couple that came after him… I wasn’t asking questions, I was just trying to get it done.”
The Chiefs finished the 2023 season second in yardage and points per game. They also only allowed 15.8 points per game in the playoffs, thwarting the leagues best offensive attacks.
He will look to help the Chiefs be the first team to three-peat in NFL history.
