Chiefs AFC Championship gear hits the stores

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Kansas City Chiefs are AFC champions after defeating the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. And now local stores are putting out the latest fan gear.

Academy Sports & Outdoors has a special section dedicated to the AFC champs. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this before, as the Chiefs have made it this far in four of the last five years.

“People have been pretty excited to come in and get it. It’s kinda not our first rodeo now. We’ve done this for five years now, but people are still excited for the chiefs,” Academy Sports & Outdoors store team lead Nate Lund said.

But what happens to gear that’s made for a team that doesn’t win?

“It goes back to the company, and then from there, I’m not sure what happens. I mean, there’s a lot of theories out there on what happens to it, but it goes back to our company. It just gets shipped back on pallets,” Lund said.

Now what will the gear look like if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl? The answer is still about the same.

“I don’t know what it’s going to look like. I haven’t seen it yet. And as far as when we would get it in, it will be ready to go out Sunday night if they were to win. But, I don’t think we’re going to open until Monday the day after,” Lund said.
