Catholic gift shop owner in Topeka looks to sell store

14 February 2024

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The owner of a Topeka small business is asking for help to keep the Roman Catholic-themed store open.

Sandy Swendsen took to social media on Tuesday, Feb. 13 with a plea for someone to take over management of her small business in west Topeka, Heaven’s Treasurers Gift Shop. Swendsen started the business in the fall of 2023 but will need to leave it behind to accompany her family as they move to Idaho.

“It just needs to be somebody who is committed,” Swendsen said.

She said her business already has a loyal following and is situated nearby other major shopping centers on the west side of the city. Items related to the Catholic faith such as books, rosaries, cards, bags and more are sold at Heaven’s Treasures.

“Just everything a normal Catholic store would have and more,” Swendsen said.

The lease she initially signed for with the landlord for her business was for two years. Swendsen is hoping someone will be able to purchase her inventory and take up the remainder of her lease so she can follow her family as they move out of state.

“I’m confident God will provide a buyer,” Swendsen said.

She says anyone who is interested in taking up the lease can reach out to her on Facebook or by calling 785-329-5317. Heaven’s Treasures Gift Shop can be found at 1570 SW Wanamaker Road in suite 210.

“Topeka needs small businesses to survive,” Swendsen said.
