4 April 2024

TOPEKA (KSNT) – State transportation officials say extensive road work operations will begin next week in Topeka on U.S. Highway 75.

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) announced in a press release that a road work project on 75 Hwy will start on Monday, April 8. This project includes the replacement of bridge approaches and concrete panels on the bridges above Lower Silver Lake Road, Union Pacific railroad tracks, NW 25th Street, Soldier Creek and NW 35th Street.

KDOT spokeswoman Kate Craft says work will start on the northbound bridges over Lower Silver Lake Road and the railroad tracks with the inside lane of 75 Hwy closed in the area. Two weeks after this, the inside lane of southbound 75 Hwy will close in the area for work on the same bridges. Lane closures will change to the outside lanes as work moves forward.

Work on the south bridges is slated to be complete by May 2024. Crews will then move on to the NW 25th Street, Soldier Creek and NW 35th Street bridges. Intermittent ramp closures at Lower Silver Lake Road and 35th Street will occur at times with message board to be posted to direct traffic.

Craft says work will occur during daylight hours Monday through Friday. Lane closures and traffic control will stay in place during non-working hours. The $3.1 million project will be completed by Bettis Asphalt & Construction in October 2024.
