LAWRENCE (KSNT) – The Jayhawks are hopeful to have their best two players back on the court for the NCAA tournament, but nothing is solidified yet.
KU men’s basketball was without senior center Hunter Dickinson and senior guard Kevin McCullar Jr. in its lone Big 12 tournament game, an ugly loss to Cincinnati. Before the conference tournament, Bill Self said the plan was to have both guys, KU’s top-two in scoring and rebounding, healthy for the big dance.
Self offered another update on Sunday in a press conference shortly after Kansas found out its NCAA tournament selection. Click here for more on KU’s draw.
“[Hunter Dickinson]’s is doing great,” Self said. “He’s actually practiced the last two days, non-contact. We’ve done a lot of dry stuff so that way he could be out there. That way, he’ll go contact [on Monday.]”
Dickinson dislocated his shoulder in KU’s final regular season game, a loss at Houston.
Meanwhile, more uncertainty lingers around McCullar’s status for KU’s tournament opener on Thursday, March 21.
Kansas women’s basketball is dancing, too. Click here for more on where Brandon Schneider’s team is heading.
“Kevin, I haven’t seen do anything,” Self said. “The entire game plan on him was hopefully on Monday he’ll be good to go. If he’s not good to go [Monday] then he won’t be and we’ll hope on Tuesday.”
Dickinson and McCullar average 18 points per game each for KU so far this season. They also combine for nearly 17 rebounds per game on average.
