Wildfire nearly contained in Pottawatomie Co.

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A fire that’s scorched thousands of acres in Riley and Pottawatomie Counties is almost contained.

Pottawatomie County Public Information Officer Becky Ryan says there was no reported injuries to livestock or people and no structures were damaged in the county. She said Fire Supervisor Jared Barnes is reporting the fire is now 90% contained.

The fire began in nearby Pottawatomie County and moved over to Riley County near Axelton Hill Road on the night of April 5. Multiple local and state firefighters responded to the situation.

Riley County spokeswoman Vivienne Leyva said more than 3,000 acres were burned in Riley County. One home was destroyed along with several other buildings but no injuries were reported.

Crews are now monitoring the area for any potential fire escapes.
