(NBC) — “Lopez vs Lopez” returns on Tuesday for Season 2 with back-to-back episodes beginning at 7 p.m.
Mayan Lopez talked about the new season and working with her dad, George.
Drinking issues for the TV version of George Lopez came to a head at the end of last season.
“I think that’s what makes ‘Lopez vs Lopez’ so special is that there are those real moments that you can feel that it’s real authenticity and heart and sometimes real tears,” said Mayan.
In real life, Mayan Lopez and her dad were estranged for several years, which inspired “Lopez vs Lopez.”
“A sitcom doesn’t solve everything, said Mayan. “But I think we have found a respect for one another creatively.”
As the new season starts, George is six weeks into sobriety.
“He’s feeling his feelings for the first time, and the family is realizing that they can’t blame the drinking anymore,” said Mayan.
Which creates an all-new challenge.
“I’ve been able to find lessons that I bring in, even into my own life,” said Mayan. “It’s almost been very cathartic and therapeutic.”
While still finding laughs.
“Lopez vs Lopez” airs back-to-back episodes Tuesday at 7 p.m. on NBC4.
