TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Shawnee Heights Fire District (SHFD) announced on Facebook it wouldn’t be able to receive calls.
According to the fire district, their phone systems are currently experiencing an outage. They ask anyone with an emergency to call 911.
“We apologize for any inconvenience, and we will update the top of this post once our telephone service is restored,” the SHFD wrote on Facebook, “Thank you for your understanding.”
The SHFD said burning is shut down today due to high winds.
Emergency responders in Riley County have been dealing with a similar situation affecting backup systems and radio communications.
The Riley County Board of County Commissioners met today at 4:30 p.m. Monday to discuss the situation. It made a local declaration of a disaster emergency in response to the cybersecurity incident. It is unclear if the incidents are related.
