WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Kansas high school students got the chance to learn about careers in sports medicine on Friday.
The Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine, located in downtown Wichita, hosted the event.
Students got a glimpse of what the medical field is like and learned from current students in the program.
“It gives young students in high school and medical students an opportunity just to see the leadership skills that we can obtain and how it’s all over the map, especially on a large scale like the Chiefs,” said Michelle Thommi, a student at KansasCOM.
Thommi said it’s good for teens to see the opportunities available to them and encourage them to attend a medical school in Kansas.
“When you’re younger, you get to see it; you know, when I was in high school, I don’t know if I really had the opportunity to see osteopathic medicine versus allopathic,” she said.
The teens also got to hear from Dan Mears, the KC Wolf mascot for the Kansas City Chiefs.
