Storm Track 3 Forecast: Warmer through the Easter Weekend. Storms by Monday.

28 March 2024

We started another day with jacket weather today, though it was not quite as bitter as yesterday morning. Kansas temperatures bottomed out around to a few degrees below freezing as opposed to yesterday’s early morning lows in the teens and 20s.

The center of high pressure has push off to our east bringing us a wind out of the south. This will lead to a nice warm up this afternoon with highs reaching the 60s to lower 70s, finally back above average for late March. The warming trend will continue Friday and we are looking for a nice Easter weekend as well.

A quiet Thursday night will follow with mainly clear skies and a southerly breeze helping to keep our low temperatures above freezing.

Friday looks an even warmer day with partly cloudy skies and a gusty southerly wind boosting temperatures into the 70s with a few lower 80s in southern Kansas.

A cold front will advance into northern and western Kansas during the afternoon tomorrow. This will lead to slightly lower temperatures Saturday but still remaining above our average for late March. Easter Sunday will be a little cloudier at times with high cloud cover filtering some of the sunshine but temperatures will turn warmer with highs well into the 70s statewide. There is just a slight chance for a shower and storm late in the day across southeast Kansas, but it will be mainly beautiful.

Our next weather system will enter the picture starting Sunday night and continuing through Tuesday. Showers and thunderstorms should blossom Sunday night then continue Monday and Monday evening.

Some of the thunderstorms could be strong to severe Monday and Monday evening mainly from the Turnpike on east into Missouri.

Our next round of wintry weather also returns next week. Our next low pressure system will track through the region and we will see rain turn to snow by Monday night and Tuesday, especially across northern and western Kansas as temperatures fall behind the passing boundary.
