Kansas insurance commissioner says time is now to file claims after severe weather, tornados

15 March 2024

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Unlucky local residents who suffered storm damage in Kansas are being urged to take some time to make insurance claims.

The Kansas Insurance Department (KID) announced on Friday, March 15 in a press release that people living in Shawnee County should begin making insurance claims after a recent bout of severe weather and tornados.

Storm damage was reported in many areas across Shawnee and Wabaunsee Counties including near the communities of Alma, Alta Vista and Rossville. KID Commissioner Vicki Schmidt said the time is now to reach out to her department for help to file an insurance claim.

“Severe weather in Kansas often means storm damage and insurance claims,” Commissioner Schmidt said. “If you have any questions about your insurance coverage after the storm or have an issue with an insurance claim in the coming weeks, please contact the Department.”

Is it early in the year for tornados in Kansas?

Schmidt said if you or someone you know is having trouble with filing an insurance claim, you should reach out to the KID’s Consumer Assistance Division toll-free by calling 1-800-432-2484 or by sending an email to [email protected]. You can also visit the KID’s website by clicking here.
