Chiefs re-sign DT Chris Jones to five-year contract: reports

10 March 2024

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — Defensive tackle Chris Jones is staying with the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs have signed Jones to a five-year deal with $95 million guaranteed.

This deal makes Jones the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.

Jones began the 2023 season in a contract holdout, missing the whole offseason, including training camp, preseason, and the team’s season opener, forfeiting more than $3 million during his missed time.

Jones was in the final year of his four-year, $80 million extension that he signed in 2020, and the prices of star DTs have increased since then.

The Mississippi State product returned to the Chiefs after he signed a new one-year deal worth up to $25 million.

He recorded 10.5 sacks this season and led the team with 14 tackles for loss while guiding a top-five NFL defense to back-to-back Super Bowl wins.

Jones also earned First-Team All-Pro recognition for his play for the second straight season, along with making his fifth straight Pro Bowl.

The 29-year-old has spent his entire eight-year career in Kansas City and has collected 75.5 sacks and 175 tackles for loss during his career since he joined the team as a second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
