8 March 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — For the past month, Kansas Highway Patrol troopers have tried to spread the word about how fast some people think they can drive on Kansas roads despite the posted speed limit.

The troopers have photos showing that drivers were caught going more than 100 mph in 65, 70, and 75 mph zones. The highest speed so far appears to be 151 mph on I-70 in Lincoln County on Feb. 15.

On Friday morning, Trooper Ben Gardner posted four more pictures showing speeds over 100 mph. He included the message, “Our Troopers are dedicated to keeping Kansas highways safe, and here’s a glimpse into our recent efforts.”

The highest speed in the images is 112 in a 70 mph zone. The driver was cited for speeding, unsafe lane change, and failure to signal. The ticket cost is $633.

The speed of the drivers in the other three pictures is 102 mph. One was in a 65 mph zone, one was in a 70, and one was in a 75.

The ticket for the speeder in the 65 mph zone costs $408. The one for the speeder in the 70 mph zone will cost $333. We do not know the cost of the other ticket.

Trooper Gardner said the cost is just one of the potential consequences for drivers who race against safety.
