WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita State Shockers had been on a five-game win streak, but that was snapped on Tuesday as they lost a midweek game on the road against the Oklahoma Sooners, 5-3.
The bats were quiet for most of the game, outside of a two-run home run by Derek Williams in the sixth inning. That shot was his fourth homer in the last three games.
Tyler Dobbs was the starting pitcher for Tuesday’s contest. He threw 3.2 innings, giving up two runs and striking out two batters in the game.
Oklahoma got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly in the third inning to bring the Sooners ahead 1-0. They added another run on a fielder’s choice in the fourth, and then a single and wild pitch pushed another two runs across.
In the bottom of the seventh, Sooners catcher Easton Carmichael sent one over the wall to give Oklahoma its final run of the game.
In the ninth inning, the Shockers got one back courtesy of a home run to right field by Josh Livingston, but it was too little too late.
Dobbs was saddled with the loss in his first start of the season.
The loss brings the Shockers record to 7-4 overall. Up next is a three-game slate at home against Long Beach State beginning Friday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
