GLASGOW, SCOTLAND (KSNT) – KU track and field alumnus Bryce Hoppel won a world title on Sunday.
The former Jayhawk won the 800 meter at World Indoors in Scotland, running 1:44.92. His mark not only earns gold but is also the fastest time in the world so far in 2024.
The victory adds to an already impressive resume for the 26-year-old in his sport. Hoppel had never won a world championship but boasted two NCAA gold’s (one indoor, one outdoor), six USA championship titles (four indoor, two outdoor) and had previously won bronze on the global stage.
Hoppel’s personal best in the event is 1:43.23, a mark he set in 2020.
