Storm Track 3 Forecast: A chilly Saturday, turning milder for the week ahead

17 February 2024

Light to moderate snow moved through southwest Kansas overnight, producing some accumulations and travel impacts, but this will be just about gone once the sun comes up.

Some slick spots may persist for a few hours where the snow fell overnight, but the sun will quickly build in today and that will take temperatures above freezing to begin the melting process. Highs today will be chilly still in the upper 30s mainly, but the sunshine will help it feel a little less bitter outside.

Dropping to the 20s overnight as skies stay clear.

Tomorrow brings a quick rebound as we keep the sunshine all day and turn winds around to the southwest. Highs boost into the 50s and makes Sunday a good day to get outside!

A passing disturbance on Monday brings some extra clouds to our skies. The atmosphere will be quite dry and the low moves too fast to bring much chance of precipitation.

Upper level ridging will take the reins for much of the coming week, keeping a warming trend going that carries us to the 70s by midweek!

Another system arrives on Thursday, this one with a little more moisture to work with. A few scattered showers will be possible, but overall it does not look to be a big rainmaker for Kansas.

This also brings a cold front that drops temperatures a few degrees, but it will not have a lasting impact and we are right back to mild and dry by next weekend.
